Summer Share 2011 – Week 9

Italian Sausage, Sweet Corn, Apricots and Peaches

This week I am very excited to offer everyone a 1.5 lb bag of fresh apricots from Eschleman Fruit Farm in Clyde, OH.  These small, tasty treats are worth talking about.

We will also feature Ohio sweet corn.  I’m very picky about my sweet corn and I think you’ll be impressed by this corn.  It is what is considered a “sugar enhanced” variety, so it is very sweet and juicy.  I’ll explain more in the newsletter about SE type sweet corns, GMOs, etc etc.

Finally, this week marks the return of my Italian Sausage recipe.  This sausage is made at Newswanger Meats in Shiloh, OH from the Berkshire pork from New Creations Farm.  They will be in 1/3 lb links, 4 to a pack.   I’ve had a lot of last year’s customers asking when the sausage will return, so I have a very large batch being made so there is extra to buy on the back of the truck.

Below are the full contents of this week’s bag:

Small CSA:

1 package Mild Italian Sausage links, 4 to a pack

1.5 lbs apricots

1.5 lbs Red Haven peaches

1 dozen pasture raised chicken eggs

6 ears Mira 301 Super Sweet corn

1 candy onion

1 head leaf lettuce

1 lb green beans

1 bunch kale, either Curly or Black Tuscan

 

Large CSA: the small package plus the items below

1 lb roasted red pepper linguini from Ohio City Pasta

1 stalk leeks

1 bunch carrots

2-3 medium hot “block” peppers (3 lobe, kind of a cross between a banana pepper and a traditional green pepper shape)

1.5 lbs red slicing tomatoes

 

Vegetarian Substitutes: In place of Italian Sausage

1 pint blueberries

3 golden zucchini

 

Vegan Substitutes:  same as the vegetarian substitutes
